Description

Assessments are not just checkpoints, but opportunities for every learner to show what they know and can do. In a universally designed classroom, assessments include multiple pathways for students to demonstrate learning and are supported by clear success criteria. This session explores how to design flexible, goal-aligned assessments that reduce barriers and support learner variability. Participants will identify common assessment pitfalls, unpack the UDL assessment cycle, and explore different types of rubrics that promote clarity, actionable feedback, and student reflection.

Objectives

  • Identify the qualities of a universally designed assessment and common barriers that limit student access to showing mastery.
  • Apply the UDL assessment cycle to design or revise an assessment aligned to firm goals and flexible means of expression.
  • Explore different types of rubrics and choose one that best supports clarity, feedback, and student reflection.
