Do you want to earn a graduate certificate in Universal Design for Learning?
The events of 2020-2021 shone a light on the need to create inclusive environments for all of our students. As a result, the demand for the implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is more prevalent than ever. Novak Education has partnered with Teachers College of San Joaquin to offer an online 13-unit graduate certificate program to provide leaders and teachers with the skills and knowledge to stand out and establish themselves as expert learners committed to the implementation of UDL.
The certificate program will allow you to jumpstart your transformation and show your commitment to equity and inclusion. It will also allow you to enhance your practice and broaden your understanding of key frameworks. The program has two 13 credit tracks that consist of a mix of facilitated and self-directed online courses.
The Teacher Track
Facilitated Courses
The teacher track offers the choice of 2 Facilitated Courses from a list of 3 courses on UDL (6 credits):
3 credit course options:
- Introduction to Universal Design for Learning (Required unless the teacher has completed a course equivalent - proof is required*)
- UDL for Equity
- Universal Design for Learning: Level 2
Self-Directed Courses
In addition to the facilitated courses, participants will have the choice of 3 or more self-directed courses as electives for an additional 7 credits:

- Deeper Learning
- Learning and the Brain
- Bridging Special Ed and Gen Ed
- Innovate Inside the Virtual Box
- Online By Design
- Leaning Into Literacy
- Expert Learning in Action
- Inclusive Practices in the Science Classroom
- Mathematics for Everyone: UDL for Elementary Mathematics
- Mathematics for All: UDL for Middle School Mathematics
1 credit course options:
- How SEL and UDL Intersect
- Bridging Special Ed and Gen Ed
- UDL and Blended Learning
- Standards-Based Grading
The Leader Track
Facilitated Courses
The leader track offers the choice of 2 facilitated courses from a list of 4 courses on UDL (6 credits):
3 credit course options:
- Introduction to Universal Design for Learning (Required unless the leader has completed a course equivalent - proof is required*)
- Coaching & Supporting UDL Implementation 1
- Coaching & Supporting UDL Implementation 2
- Building Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
Self-Directed Courses
In addition to the facilitated courses, administrators in the program will have the choice of taking 3 or more self-directed courses as electives for a total of 7 credits:
3 credit course options:
- UDL Playbook (Encompass Leadership, etc.)
- MTSS self-paced
- How SEL and UDL Intersect
- Equity by Design
- Bridging Gen Ed and Spec Ed
- Innovate the Virtual Box
- Expert Learning in Action
1 credit course options:
- How SEL and UDL Intersect
- Bridging Special Ed and Gen Ed
- UDL PLCs
- Standards-Based Grading
Each course is facilitated by a leading expert in UDL, SEL, Equity, and inclusive practices and will allow you to connect with fellow educators who are also committed to reaching every student.
Graduate certificate programs are “highly concentrated” programs and are recommended by Indeed.com for those interested in increasing their professional network. The program is cost-effective and is completely online, so it can be taken from anywhere in the world! It is flexible and you can determine your own schedule and choose the courses that match your personal interests. The program can be completed in as little as one year or up to three years.
