Preparing for Your Session

Professional Learning Tips

  • Make sure every staff member has access to a device along with a steady internet connection (even if you are projecting the speaker in a virtual presentation, everyone should have their own device connected to Zoom!) We will share a lot of digital resources, and providing this option allows for staff to follow along with the presentation and engage in activities.
  • Check your tech. If your session is in person, be sure to have a projector, large screen (or multiple screens if the room is very large), microphone/speakers, and don't forget to make sure the bulb on your projector is working! Whether your session is in person or virtual, ensure your wifi can support the number of people using individual devices.
  • Model UDL as leaders. Remember, implementing new practices starts with putting trust and faith in your educators. We must model best practices as leaders and provide our educators with voice, choice, and put trust in them to make good decisions if we want them to do the same with their learners. Where to start? Allow staff to attend a virtual session from where they think they'll learn best or provide choice in seating options for a live session.
  • Provide an environment that encourages learning. Just like our students, adults need opportunities to collaborate and learn actively. Sitting in a large auditorium all day will not lend itself to high engagement (our feedback data proves it!). We recommend no more than 90 minutes in a group space with no tables or desks before splitting into smaller working groups.
  • Maslow before Bloom! It's hard to concentrate when we are hungry, thirsty, or need to use the restroom. Offer water and snacks if you can, or send a reminder to teachers to bring them, if not. We will provide ample breaks for using the bathroom, stretching/walking, or taking a mind break.

Observations/Coaching Tips

  • Provide us with a schedule of teacher's we will observe & or meet with.
  • Offer a map to your provider so they can find their way around the school.
  • Let us know beforehand if you are interested in shadowing us when coaching or observing classrooms.
