Description

Every student and their family brings unique strengths and perspectives to education. While chronic behavior challenges can be difficult to manage in classrooms, punitive measures have shown limited success in addressing the root causes. Restorative practices honor diverse backgrounds and help foster mutual respect and dignity in learning environments. By reframing how we respond to behavior, these practices initiate constructive dialogue, build stronger relationships, and lead to deeper engagement. This session explores the foundations of restorative practices - what they are, how they’re implemented, and the outcomes they can produce. The goal is to help reshape the learning environment to cultivate pride, belonging, and the strengths each student brings, ultimately creating a more inclusive and productive educational experience.

Objectives

  • Be able to begin implementing restorative practices, fostering a culture of mutual respect and dignity within the classroom.
  • Understand how to reframe behavior management, initiating constructive dialogues between educators, students, and their families.
  • Be able to create a more inclusive and productive learning environment where all students feel a deep sense of pride and belonging, where their unique strengths are recognized.
