Spark Inclusive Practices in the Primary Mathematics Classroom Professional Development Session

Educators will explore strategies to spark inclusive practices in the primary mathematics classroom using the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). This session will provide practical approaches and concrete examples to help you create a learning environment where all students can see themselves as capable mathematicians. By leveraging UDL, we can ensure every learner has access to meaningful and challenging opportunities in mathematics, building both skill and confidence.

At the end of this session, participants will:

  • Discover effective routines and strategies to empower all students to achieve high levels in mathematics, focusing on building foundational numeracy skills and scaffolding complex concepts through engaging, student-centered activities.
  • Develop approaches to cultivating positive mathematical mindsets—both for students and educators—by incorporating practices that celebrate growth, persistence, and problem-solving.
  • Identify and reduce barriers that prevent students from seeing themselves as “math people,” using concrete examples and flexible routines to unlock key concepts like additive reasoning, multiplication, division, and fractions.

Expert Tip! Host a PD session to excite and engage your team and download the free book club guide to pair with the book to continue the conversation and engagement as team members begin to implement their learnings!
