This course will introduce the key concepts of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and give you the knowledge you need to start using UDL in your lesson and assessment design both in the classroom and online. Each module will include a variety of materials to increase options for representation and increase engagement throughout the course. You will dive into the why, the what, and the how of UDL and learn how UDL creates more accessible and equitable learning environments.

About Your Instructor

Katie Novak, Ed.D., is an internationally renowned education consultant, author, adjunct professor at UPenn, and a former Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Massachusetts. Dr. Novak has over 20 years of experience in teaching and administration, an earned doctorate in curriculum and teaching, and is the author of 11 published books, including the best-selling book, UDL Now!.

Katie designs and presents professional learning opportunities nationally and internationally, focusing on the implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), inclusive practices, and universally designed leadership. 

 

What to Expect

How the Course Works

  • Start off each module by watching a short video introducing each module and lesson.
  • Dive deeper into the content. Review readings and resources - the key is to self-differentiate. Choose what works best for you and helps you better understand the content and engage with the lesson. 
  • Complete the assessment in each module. These are opportunities to reflect on what you already know or have learned.
  • As you move through the course, we encourage you to take part in the course community discussion board. It offers an opportunity to reflect on your learnings and interact and engage with other posts from fellow educators around the world.
  • Upon course completion, receive your completion certificate for 10 continuing education hours.
  • For those who are taking the course for graduate credit,  you will complete a final project. Upon completion receive an additional certificate for 5 continuing education hours and a transcript from the college of your choice for 1 graduate-level continuing education credit.
  • Course and Final Project Runs on the Thinkific platform.
