Bryan Dean is an Instructional Designer for a large intermediate school district overseeing 30 smaller public schools. He is Lead Project and Professional Learning Designer for Oakland Schools UDL project. Recently, he has become a member of the CAST UDL PL Cadre, facilitated a week long intensive UDL workshop series at Harvard, and started a national podcast series focusing on UDL and 21st century literacies. Bryan has been working with hard-to-reach students with emotional impairments, conduct disorder, behavioral difficulties, and low interest for more than 11 years. Bryan has experience designing Professional Learning around Specially Designed Instruction, Universal Design for Learning, New Teacher Induction, Design Thinking, Deep Learning, and Communities of Practice for Teachers of the Emotionally Impaired and Teachers of Special Education. In addition to the designing of professional learning, he is a project lead on a virtual learning environment, worked on systems implementation and design, designed organizational culture and climate change, and developed a uniques UDL coaching system based on appreciative and ontological coaching matrices.
